Youth

Our youth program brings young people together every week to help them grow in faith and to equip them to change history.

• Rite 13 - (7th-8th grades)  The Rite 13 class will be starting up again on Sunday, September 28th .  The group will be led by Jackie Taylor and Greg and Tracey Tuthill, and will meet in Bryan's Room at 9:00AM on Sunday mornings.  If you haven't participated before, but would like to begin, please feel welcome to come Sunday morning.  You can call Martha Heiner, 766-0868, with any questions.
• Senior Youth Group- (9th-12th grades)   On October 5, we will be starting up a new class.  Open to all High School age kids, the group will be led by Jim Nishimura and Yeta Eweka.  They will meet in the Heritage Room on Sunday mornings at 9:00AM.  We will be contacting all high school age kids shortly, with more information.  You can call Martha Heiner, 766-0868, with any questions.
  
  

• Began in mid-1980s by parish of St. Philip’s in Durham, NC and is used by 1500 congregations
• Complete Youth Ministry Program of spiritual formation for 6th to 12th graders and includes Bible Study, prayer, rites of passage, and outreach ministries
• Core Principles – Celebration and Responsibility.  Focusing on the concepts of manhood and womanhood as free gifts from God and that adulthood must be earned
• Four Areas (Jesus is Model) are Self, Society, Sexuality and Spirituality

J2A is composed of three two-year segments:
• Rite 13 – (6th and 7th or 7th and 8th grades).  This segment focuses on celebrating their individuality and creative potential similar to the Jewish bar/bat mitzvah tradition
• J2A – (8th and 9th or 9th and 10th grades).  The second segment engages youth in skills and critical thinking of adulthood: active listening, negotiation, assertion, research  & information management, partnership and leadership, Confirmation, and Embarking on Pilgrimage – Holy Land, Ireland, England, etc.
• YAC (Young Adults in Church) is the final segment geared toward 11th and 12th grades.  This is a Mentor based program used to discern and carry out a ministry within their church
